Q: I color my hair myself at home. I would
now like to have it colored professionally. Is there anything
I should tell my colorist?
A: I would always ask the
guest what brand of hair color she is using. The ingredients within
the product may affect the outcome of the professional color. Because
you have been doing your hair yourself, it might take more the
one visit to perfect the formula and the desired color. I would
also recommend doing something more exciting such as highlighting
or dimensional tones. I sometimes use 3 or 4 different tones throughout
the process. I do so much to the color to make it look like I did
nothing in order to achieve a healthy, beautiful, and more natural
looking color.
Q: Are there any special techniques
for cutting or coloring hair with tight curls?
A: When coloring curly hair
you have to take into account that drying it adds volume.
When I highlight curly hair, I tend to weave thicker sections
than I would normally weave on straight hair so that the end result
is eye-catching and has contrast. There is nothing worse than colored
curly hair that looks boring. For a sun-kissed effect, another
technique I use is to just highlight the tips of virgin hair or
single-processed hair. I also use a new haircutting technique specifically
designed for curly hair.
